  9. 1.  Experience
  10.  
  11. All characters receive experience during the game.  Experience
  12. determines your level, which determines hit points, mana points,
  13. spells, abilities, etc.  The amount of experience required to 
  14. advance a level is a base value (shown below) plus a penalty
  15. for race and class.

  38. There are percent penalties for various races and classes to
  39. help even them out.  The table below lists all the penalties.

  50. For example:  For a 10'th level Gnomish Mage to achieve 11'th level
  51. needs:
  52.            500 *  1.25 * 1.30 = 812.5

  55. Note:  Even for the worst case (Gnomish Ranger) it is still possible
  56. to achieve the 40th level.  (5,000,000*1.25*1.40=8,750,000 experience)

  58. The program internally keeps experience out to the fourth decimal place
  59. even though it only displays the integer portion on the screen.

  61. 1.2  Getting Experience
  62.  
  63. There are many ways to gain experience.  This list shows a few.
  64.  
  65. 1.  Defeating monsters
  66. 2.  Disarming traps
  67. 3.  Picking locks
  68. 4.  Using a scroll, potion, staff, wand, or rod for the first time
  69.       and discovering what it did.
  70. 5.  Casting a spell successfully for the first time.
  71. 6.  Drinking a potion of gain experience or gain level
  72.

  75. Each experience level has a title which is displayed under your name
  76. and class.  Below is a listing of all the titles for each level and
  77. class.
